Could have been the brand of poly used, but IMO it was more likely due to how well the shellac was prepped and cleaned prior to applying the poly and how the poly was applied. WebMar 17, 2024 · For grins, I used my smoother on a piece of cherry and put two coats of 1 lb cut shellac on one half, followed by 3 coats of poly, and only 3 coats of poly on the other half. The shellac half looks better, not as blotchy, and smoother to the touch. I don't see any problems with adhesion.
